This glass sleeve was manufactured by Hemingray, and two of them were discovered in the 1960s by a Hemingray employee digging in the Hemingray dump. It was originally believed to have been a sleeve for the CD 317.7, and so it was assigned CD 314. Once it was discovered the pieces did not go together, the sleeve lost its CD number.
We now know that this sleeve is part of the Micarta Core suspension string, in which 5 of these sleeves were stacked and a core made of micarta was inserted through the middle.
