Hemingray Insulator Profile: CD 186  
This oddity is one of the rare experimental styles based off a modified mold of CD 162. This specimen has a 1/2" hole through the dome. This unique design was patented January 8, 1946 by Alwin G. Steinmayer as a "Spark Gap Insulator" (see related patent). There were two others in this experimental "family": the CD 186.1 and CD 186.2
